A prayer you can pray while carving pumpkins!? YES! Here it is:
Dear Jesus, As I carve my pumpkin, help me pray this prayer:
Open my mind so that I can learn about You;
(cut the top off the pumpkin)
Take all my sin and forgive the wrong that I do.
(clean out the inside)
Open my eyes so Your love I will see;
(cut eyes shaped like hearts)
I’m sorry for times I’ve turned up my nose at

Ann Garrido, is the author of 10 books including her most recent, Let's Talk About Truth (Ave Maria Press), where, despite living in today's modern society where many believe that we are in a post-truth era, she makes the case that truth is such a central theme in Christianity that it is the duty of preachers and teachers to talk about it, to know the Catholic tradition’s wisdom on it, and to share it in a way that can be understood and remembered.
Ann has spoken at over 200 diocesan, educational, health care, ministry, and business gatherings in all 50 states and in 20 countries. We are super excited to have her with us via Zoom at our annual Parish-Wide Advent Retreat!

IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO REGISTER TO VOTE:
Have you registered to vote yet? It’s not too late! October 26th is the deadline to register online to vote in the November election. You can check your registration status or register to vote HERE.
As Catholics, it is important that we exercise this privilege and responsibility to be civically involved.
However, while the Catholic Church supports public policies that serve the common good and are aligned with our Church teachings, it does not endorse candidates or political parties. You may encounter websites, sources, or mailers that claim to be Catholic. However, they may not be officially aligned with or sanctioned by the
U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).
If a source tells you to support a specific candidate or political party, it is most certainly not officially aligned with the Catholic Church.
For information about national public policy, please refer to the USCCB website. Please consult the Washington State Catholic Conference (WSCC) for information about state and local public policies. When considering political candidates' views on public policies, we recommend reading Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship: A Call to Political Responsibility from the Catholic Bishops of the United States.
And while we may not all agree on who or what to vote for, let us practice civility with one another.

OCTOBER IS RESPECT LIFE MONTH
Did you know that October is Respect Life Month?
While we are called to respect all life at all times, this month lifts up this intention, especially focusing on the most vulnerable among us. So how do we do that?
PRAY: You can pray for those on the margins – the pre-born, those experiencing homelessness, seniors, those caught up in the criminal justice system, migrants and refugees. You can pray for an end to injustices like racism, human trafficking, and food insecurity.
DONATE: You can donate items like diapers and baby wipes to Pregnancy Aid which supports moms with essential items to care for their children. You can donate food to a local food bank like the Storehouse which ensures nobody in our community goes hungry. You can donate money to an organization like Vine Maple Place or Catholic Community Services which provide support to individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
ENCOUNTER: While it is difficult to meet in person, there are many ways you can reach out to those that could use some extra support. You can reach out to a senior that lives alone through letters and phone calls or become a pen pal with someone incarcerated through Catholic Prison Ministries. You can virtually tutor a refugee in ESL through World Relief or become a mentor to an at-risk student through Communities in Schools.
You can also show your respect for life in small ways – smiling with your eyes (while we’re all masked) or saying hello to strangers you come across, being intentional with your words used towards or about others. We all belong to one another – let us together embrace this through our profound respect for all people.
